What is a MSG file?

MSG is Microsoft's proprietary format for individual email messages saved from Outlook. Unlike EML, MSG files use Microsoft's Compound File Binary Format (CFBF) and can store rich formatting, embedded objects, and Outlook-specific metadata like categories and flags. MSG files are commonly shared in enterprise environments.
